Forces of Nature

Nature is the source of all true knowledge–
Leonardo da Vinci

Storms make trees take deeper roots.
Dolly Parton

I am so fortunate to have a few days in the house of a friend.
It sits on a tall bluff over these waves. It has been rainy and brutally windy.
Despite the house shuddering and groaning in the wind, it has also been peaceful.
Replenishing. Time for contemplation.

There have been storms of many sorts in my life: joyful cloudbursts, terrifying tempests: moves, marriage, divorce, jobs, degrees, gardens, exhibitions, successes  and failures. And so many more….

The most significant storm: cancer.
It has been seven years since I received
the diagnosis of a 20% chance of surviving 5 years and yet here I am.

A chaotic tangle of connections cut through my foundation, but here I AM!

While at the Cape I was able to reconnect my painting roots
and (sort of) pick up where I’d left off. I didn’t get a lot of work done, but now
I’m back in my basement studio in Vermont, and back into my schedule of night time painting.

Here is a tiny 5″ x 5″ nest, barely begun, but it’s on its way.

Any thoughts on what I might I add to it?
