Art, Honor, Good Sense and the kindness of friends

Sixteen feet of mural on the side of the Liza Myers Gallery

“Never give in, never give in, never; never; never; never – in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense”

Winston Churchill

Thanks Winston! Great advice.
I think you might have painted this too, had you not been so busy saving the free world!

Creating this mural represents a conviction of honor.

Honoring an idea that I’ve had for years. Honoring sunflowers, summer and the moon. Honoring Vermont landscapes and agricultural practices.  Honoring the artistic process, honoring the space where it was to reside. Honoring the time and focus needed for it’s completion.

It was also good sense, because it enhances our little Vermont village, Brandon. It’s very visible on the side of the gallery as you drive south into town on Vermont’s historic Route 7. It’s a giant art work on the side of our gallery, part of the Brandon Artists Guild Sunflower summer project.

The installation process was a challenge, but thanks to some knowledgeable good friends it was accomplished without mishap.

It’s now lit up at night and looks quite lovely, glowing warm in the evenings.

    Congratulations Liza !

    What a beautifull mural !

I hope it’s waterproof as I expect you
won”t be replacing it very often. Looking
forward with this new art support set up.

    ONWARD, Grandfather Andy

What a wonderful painting Liz. Sunflowers are amazing aren’t they? They remind me of so many things, abundance, staying on track and being present- the way they follow the sun and the grand design of the universe with the centre of them being constructed according to the Golden Ratio. How long did it take you to paint it?

It was about a 6 week constant project. I had one assistant who had never painted before, and was a willing wonderful, occasional volunteer.
    Thanks for your kind comments!

Great project Liz. Iv’e never done anything on quite that scale, a back drop for a school play once and thats about it.

  5. You are a star !
I love your paintings and this one is a true masterpiece; i hope i have the good fortune of seeing this mural in person this summer; what an ambitious undertaking… and i can certainly relate to the installation challenge that appears to have been suberbly handled. I am a new comer to the area and had only been in Brandon once before about 30 years ago. What a glorious change! Your mural has a wondererful welcoming visual impact. And at night the birds in the window pop out with the interior illumination. Hopefully I will meet you soon as I am now a juried BAG member!
