Arts Benefits

Over the years I have created many works of art to benefit various causes: hospitals, art associations, schools, libraries.

Because I get so many requests I have had to become very selective about the places where I donate. I wish that weren’t the case, but along with every other artist, I’m frequently asked to donate originals and reproductions to causes, most of them very worthy.
But I’m just one person, and this is my livelihood.
Sometimes I wonder if people understand how much time it takes to create a work of art.
Would a corporation give up weeks of their time, buy expensive materials and then give the work away?
I suspect that’s highly unlikely.
And sadly, I can’t even take a tax deduction for the gift.

Still, I do give my work to some causes.
And of course, I can’t donate art that is less than the best I can do.

The rocker was created for a benefit titled: Brandon Rocks. I got to be the poster child that year. There were MANY beautiful works.

The Moonlight Equinox Express benefited the city of Rutland, Vermont. It's 60" x 72" x 30" more or less.

That’s one of the many reasons that I am excited about the  #TwitterArtExhibit. It is a global exhibition of original work that is short & sweet and rewarding. The theme is wide open. All work must be the size of a postcard. No larger.

The artists are from all around the world.
I’m happy to be a participant this year.

The show is the  brainchild of  David Sandum who created the exhibit to raise money for children’s books for a struggling library in Moss, Norway. This year the exhibit is in Orlando, Florida, curated by artist Robin Maria Pedrero. The proceeds will benefit the Center for Contemporary Dance, Special Needs classes.

Way to go, Robin Maria and David!

The opening is tonight at the City Arts Factory Magic Gallery in Orlando.

Love seeing the pieces that you’ve done before for charities Liza, they are all so beautiful. I have learned to be very selective as well. I once bought back my own piece because I didn’t think it was represented at the event in the best light! Lesson learned… but something like the Twitter show which is all art is already a step in the right direction.
